St. Baldrick's Foundation is the organization benefiting from our philanthropic efforts this year. St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-powered charity known for their head-shaving events, where “shavees” stand in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during treatment. Non-head-shaving fundraisers, like our Coin Drives, are also held to raise money for the Foundation. Since 2005, the Foundation has granted more than $200 million to find cures for kids with cancer. We will also be donating to Connecticut Children's Medical Center (CCMC), a nationally recognized not-for-profit children’s hospital in Hartford, Connecticut that cares for sick children everyday.
For our conference this year, schools will be participating in Coin Drives to raise funds for St. Baldrick's. These fun competitions will be done prior to conference! We will also have delegates bring toys and goodies to the Conference for the children at CCMC (details of what to bring are below). At the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to write cards for the children at CCMC.

The St. Baldricks foundation seeks to help raise awareness and fundraise for children with childhood cancer. According to the foundation, before they turn 20 , about 1 in 285 children in the U.S. alone will have cancer. This is a huge problem and St. Baldrick's seeks to stop this epidemic. Every year at UConn our NRHH hosts their own St Baldricks. Money is raised leading up to it through different fundraisers and events. Teams are formed and compete to see who can earn the most money for the cause. At UConn, we generally have performers, food, and head shaving and haircutting as more of a fundraiser for the event. We try to get as many local organizations, schools, and UConn students to participate as possible.
